Practical Aspects of Commercial Sales and Lettings

This introductory course is for sales, letting and commercial agents with some existing agency knowledge who wish to gain a basic understanding of how the commercial property market works. It will focus on the essential legal background involved, such as The Estate Agents Act and Subordinate Regulations.

The course will also give practical advice on common topics such as the marketing process, preparing heads of terms and methods of disposal. It will also cover how to deal with commercial property landlords, including consent to assign, subletting, and change of use.

Mike Hughes

Michael Hughes

Michael Hughes is a Chartered Surveyor and Director of MJD HUGHES Ltd, a company specialising in Business and Commercial Property. He has over 30 years’ experience in the licensed trade and commercial property. His experience ranges from the physical operation of a variety of outlets (single bar units to multiple bar operations over multiple site locations) to the estate management of commercial property. This includes acquisition, lease agreements, tenant recruitment, property valuation, and the sale of property.

In addition to commercial property agency Michael has a depth of knowledge in professional services including business rate appraisal, rent appraisal and review negotiation and fixtures and fittings inventory report preparation and valuation for sale. Michael is a Fellow of NAEA Propertymark and NAEA Commercial, together with a Fellow of the British Institute of Innkeeping. He was awarded the level 5 Diploma in Commercial Property Agency in 2011 and is on the Governance Board for Propertymark Qualifications.
