Propertymark issues guidance designed to support agents in resuming safely

Following the UK Government’s announcement that sales and lettings activity can resume within England, Propertymark has developed detailed guidance to support activities carried out across sales and lettings of residential property.

The guidance created by Propertymark is more comprehensive and up-to-date than anything else available to the sector and it should be taken as a whole rather than in part and is designed to work in conjunction with Government guidance on residential sales and lettings

This is best practice designed to support agencies in developing their own new procedures. The guidance has been designed to support members in every relevant work area including offices, teams, identity checks, valuations, capturing visuals for marketing, issuing certification, maintenance, viewings, offers, cleaning and inventories, move-ins, evictions, courts, and prescribed forms. It has been designed in consultation with working professionals, for application across a wide variety of business procedures with the aim of keeping staff and clients safe.

The focus of the guidance is on inserting safety steps within each stage of existing processes. Agents should not expect to 'return to normal' and staff must consider how best practice affects existing procedures and what changes need to be implemented.

Members should be aware that the Government retains the power to pause all home moves to manage the spread of the Coronavirus. Propertymark has issued a collection of Post Pandemic Plan guidance designed to support members in taking action for the next stage of the health crisis.

Safety is paramount. Agents should take the lead in guiding clients as to how activities can take place with minimum levels of risk, providing reassurance, and allowing everyone involved to flag any concerns.
