Furlough scheme update from the Chancellor

Chancellor Rishi Sunak today announced that the Government support for furloughed employees is extended for four months until the end of October 2020.

He went on to say that there will be no changes to the scheme before the end of July. Between August and October, he committed to greater flexibility to support businesses where they need to bring back employees on a part-time basis.

In response to a question on job losses in the aviation industry, Sunak said: The best way to help in the end is for us to find a way to control this virus, live with it, and indeed re-open those parts of the economy that are currently closed.

Further details of forthcoming changes to the scheme will be made available later today. Propertymark continues to talk to the Ministry of Housing, Communities, and Local Government in seeking guidance for the safe re-opening of the property sector and will share an update as soon as any details are available.
