Propertymark urges members to contact their MP about business rates relief

Friday 20 March 2020

Property agents are missing out on business rates relief measures announced by the Government in response to the outbreak of Coronavirus.

The Chancellor announced a twelve-month business rates ‘holiday’ for some high street businesses, but property agencies do not fall into the business categories protected.

ARLA Propertymark Chief Executive David Cox and NAEA Propertymark Chief Executive Mark Hayward have written to the Chancellor, calling for the help that is vital to the property industry.

The seriousness of the outbreak is an existential threat to the industry; and we need Government to ensure that the vital work property agents do, which underpins the UK economy and supports millions of consumers each year, can continue in the future.

Agents are urged to contact their MP today to ask them to raise the issue in Parliament and ensure the Government extends the relief to all estate and letting agents as a matter of urgency.

Details of how to write to your MP, and a form of words that can be used, can be found on the Propertymark website
