Arbon Trust looks to 2020 after successful Sleepout

Monday 13 January 2020

The Propertymark Great Agent sleepout raised a total of £66,402.81 for Centrepoint, with The Arbon Trust donating the entrance fee for participants and some additional funding.

In 2020 The Arbon Trust – Propertymark’s charitable arm – will continue to help members, their families, and Propertymark staff when they need it most. The trust will continue to focus on:

  • mental health and wellbeing, including providing speakers from mental health charity Mind at regional conferences
  • assisting students who are struggling to find funding for their Propertymark qualifications
  • providing financial assistance to members' families who are suffering from physical or mental illness and are unable to work.

The Arbon Trust found it a huge privilege to be part of The Great Agent Sleepout in aid of Centrepoint. To be part of an event where a hundred members came together to raise money for young people in their time of need was very special.

I remember laying there between 3 am and 4 am on what was a very wet November night, but far from the coldest night of the year, and thinking how horrendous it is for the 100,000 young people who have to deal with sleeping rough each night. At the same time, I thought how proud I was that Propertymark and The Arbon Trust were part of the 1000 people taking part that night." - Martyn Baum, The Arbon Trust

Centrepoint provides practical support to homeless people age 16-25, focusing on providing a safe place to stay and the building blocks of and independent life.

The charity, which operates supported accommodation in London, Sunderland, Manchester, Bradford, and Barnsley, says that family breakdown is the most common cause of youth homelessness. They work to eradicate grassroots homelessness, offering accommodation in hostels, shared houses and flats for up to two years.
