The issue is gaining national coverage where the plant’s spread through gardens and damage to properties has been likened to that of Japanese knotweed. Unlike knotweed, bamboo currently incurs no lending restrictions, and sellers are under no obligation to tell potential buyers if the plant has posed a problem.
Some bamboo rhizomes can spread up to 30 feet if left unchecked, and can quickly encroach onto neighbouring properties.
The Daily Mail reports, that solicitors have seen an increase on neighbourly disputes over damage to properties from bamboo.
