Market Appraisal and Valuation of Residential Property

Property valuations and appraisals are one of the fundamentals of estate agency and being proficient at both is essential to becoming a first-class estate agent.

The course will look at the various methods of valuation theory and how these relate to different property types. The course will use worked examples and focus on key topics such as factors affecting the price of a property. Attendees will come away from the session feeling confident in their ability to provide an accurate valuation to clients.

  • Basic economic supply and demand theory
  • Valuation bases – market value, price, estimate of worth and market appraisal
  • Factors affecting value
  • Valuation methods – comparable, investment and residual methods, insurance value
  • Application of valuation techniques – use of different valuation methods, valuations for specific purposes, such as tax and matrimonial matters, valuations for investment and development

Aidan Reed, ARLA Trainer

Aidan Reed

Aidan has been involved in the property sector for over 30 years. A Chartered Surveyor who built his own multi-disciplinary Residential practice including both sales, professional and student lettings and management.

Aidan was a Partner with John German for over 20 years and set his own sales business up in Leicestershire in 2005 becoming the market leader in Loughborough before selling out to Leaders in 2015.

He now brings his expertise and experience to other firms through his consultancy work and has been Chair of the Working group for The Junior Estate Agent Trailblazer Apprenticeship.

Aidan has been a member of NAEA Propertymark since 1989 having served on the Propertymark Board for 5 years and was elected to The College of Fellows in 2017.
