How to Value Commercial and Business Property

This introductory course is aimed at members of NAEA Propertymark, NAEA Commercial and ARLA Propertymark who wish to gain a basic understanding of how to value commercial property. It will provide an outline of the various intricacies involved, including capital and rental valuation bases, factors affecting commercial property value and statutory controls.

The course will also cover how valuations must be approached is a when compared to residential property and common challenges experienced by agents operating in the commercial sector. This includes methods of valuation, dealing with overrented property and zoning of rental properties.

Mike Hughes

Michael Hughes

Michael is the Director and owner of MJD HUGHES Ltd a company specialising in Business and Commercial Property. He has over 30 years’ experience in the licensed trade and commercial property. His experience ranges from the physical operation of a variety of outlets (single bar units to multiple bar operations over multiple site locations) to the estate management of commercial property from acquisition, drawing up heads of terms for lease agreements and recruitment of tenants, property valuation, and the sale of property. In addition to commercial property agency Michael has a depth of knowledge in professional services including business rate appraisal, rent appraisal and review negotiation and fixtures and fittings inventory report preparation and valuation for sale

Michael is a Fellow of the National Association of Estate Agents, FNAEA Commercial, together with a Fellow of the British Institute of Innkeeping. He was awarded the level 5 Diploma in Commercial Property Agency in 2011 and is on the Governance Board for the Examination Awarding Body of Propertymark.
