The Leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, Willie Rennie MSP,
has called on the Scottish Government to develop a Scottish Stamp
Duty which could incentivise the re-use of empty property, benefit
first time home-buyers, reduce greenfield development and tackle
climate change. The devolution of stamp duty land tax is part of a
package of powers devolved under the new Scotland Act.
Commenting on the proposals, Mr Rennie said:
"The Scottish Government could get this right and achieve
results which boost our economy, directly and indirectly
benefitting home-buyers, businesses and the environment. I am
urging them to put the wheels into motion with these new stamp duty
powers, and use this opportunity to shape Scotland's future for the
better."
