Responding to the house price index report from Halifax today
(6th January 2012), Peter Bolton King, Chief Executive
of the National Association of Estate Agents said:
"Whilst an overall UK figure is no doubt statistically correct,
it needs to be remembered that there is no such thing as a national
housing market in the UK. Instead it's a landscape of
micro-markets, with high demand for property in some districts
helping to maintain strong prices, but a stark division with less
desirable areas where prices are certainly falling. Even towns and
cities have micro-markets across different neighbourhoods. That's
why we recommend that buyers and sellers appoint estate agents who
are licensed NAEA members to represent them, ensuring they receive
a professional service, as well as protection under our Rules of
Conduct."
