Peter Bolton King remains in regular contact with the Housing
Minister and his Department regarding the proposed changes to the
EPC and, in particular, the proposal to change what is included
with sales particulars. Members will be aware that thanks to our
intervention, the Minister agreed that agents will only have to
provide the first page of the EPC. Nevertheless Peter has continued
to press the Minister and used as an example the difficulties for
those using A5 particulars.
The Minister has just responded with the following further
thoughts:
"Although the EPC is normally produced in hard copy as an A4
document in colour, there is no reason why it cannot be reduced to
A5 size and reproduced in black and white for this purpose,
providing it is still legible. In addition, our view is that it is
not essential for the EPC to be produced as part of the same
document as the written particulars: for example, an A4 copy of the
EPC folded in half and sent alongside the A5 written particulars
could meet the requirements of the regulations."
The Minister has then added in a handwritten note that there is
no minimum font size specified.
While we appreciate that some members are unhappy about these
proposals, hopefully Members will appreciate that Peter continues
to fight on their behalf.
