Bank holidays are the perfect time to do those home
improvements, ensuring the resale value of your home remains
competitive
First impressions
First impressions count, so make sure the outside of your house
looks tidy. The paint work should be clean and fresh, the windows
sparkling and the garden well kept. If you have a garden gate, make
sure it is attached properly and that all clutter such as bins,
rubbish and children's toys are as well hidden as possible.
In much the same way, the hall could be one of the most
important areas of the house, as it will be the first
internal view your potential buyer will see. Again this area should
be as clutter free as possible. A fresh coat of paint can go a long
way to making your home look clean, bright and welcoming.
Try to be as objective as you can and think about what areas of
the house need your attention most. Remember your taste is unlikely
to be the same as you potential buyers. Could the living room be
repainted in a more neutral colour? The kitchen is traditionally
the favourite room of the house so make it look as fresh as
possible, give it a good clean, wash down all walls and tiles, if
cupboards look dated, change the doors for something a little more
contemporary.
With a little elbow grease and relatively small expense,
you can maintain and even increase the value of your
home.
