The 2019 NAEA Propertymark National Conference – eye opening and inspirational

15 February 2019

A fantastic event, filled with insight, inspiration, and some rather questionable hats, thanks to one of our animated keynote speakers. Among the informative statistics, eye-opening case studies and weirdly wonderful anecdotes, there was a serious message around anti-money laundering and cartels behaviour, but ultimately the programme was aimed at inspiring everyone to be the best they can be. Propertymark accredited college courses

Tuesday 02 May 2017

Would you like to see a Propertymark accredited college course in your area? Following the success of City College Norwich we are looking to get more courses off the ground for 2018.

The Level 3 Customer and Property Services course was the brainchild of former NAEA President (2013/14) Jan Hÿtch of Arnolds Keys in Norfolk, who saw first-hand of the frustrations of trying to persuade government to engage in regulation of the sector. Instead she decided to turn regulation on its head and see if we could improve sector standards ourselves by taking into our own hands the ability to bring young people into our profession via education.

Jan Hytch, explained why she decided to set up the course:

"So many of us have stumbled into our profession, being only as good as the firms we worked within, and those who trained us.  There is therefore no common bench mark or start point, and so it is no wonder that the consumer finds it difficult to differentiate them between a good professional qualified estate agent, and someone who set up in business five minutes ago."

Jan continued: "The course, now in its third year in Norwich, has become very popular with young people wishing to enter the property professions.  Students who have graduated in the last couple of years are now employed in and around the county of Norfolk, and have all become student members of NAEA and ARLA.

"When they complete the course, each student will have a City and Guilds qualification in customer service, and a Propertymark L2 qualification in estate agency, residential lettings or both."

Are you passionate about professional standards? Would you like to see this happen in your region? Working as a team, we can help ensure a steady supply of skilled professionals to help meet the needs of local businesses so that they can continue to offer the highest quality customer service to their clients. It will also mean that agencies shouldn't need to spend quite as much time training new recruits when they get taken on, as they'll already be equipped with the industry leading qualification.

The Propertymark Qualifications team are in discussions with a number of other colleges up and down the country had who have approached them for more information about starting the course in their locations.

However, we are looking to expand our reach considerably and are still looking for members to be the 'agent lead' for their local college, which could involve anything from consulting with and advising college staff, providing expert knowledge, delivering seminars to students on specialist topics or providing careers information or work placements.

If this sounds like you, or if you're a college or training provider interested in offering the course, please contact the Propertymark Qualifications team to express your interest and we'll take it from there.

Greater Brighton Metropolitan College (GBMC) are expected to be the second college in the UK to offer the course later in the year, pending full centre approval process with Propertymark Qualifications.

Helen Curtis, Head of Business and Industry Services at GBMC said:

"We are delighted that our college is on track to offer the Estate Agent and Property Services course. Once approved, we will be only the second college in the UK to offer the Propertymark accredited one-year course and it's sure to be in high demand when it launches later in the year.

"It will be an exciting proposition for any student thinking about a career in estate agency or lettings. Students will learn about everything from legal matters to practical aspects and benefit from seminars with experienced practitioners which should give them a real grounding in the issues that property professionals encounter on a daily basis.

"Students will also be able to gain practical experience from undertaking a work placement within a local business which will give them fantastic first-hand experience which will stand them in good stead for their future career paths."
