The 2019 NAEA Propertymark National Conference – eye opening and inspirational

15 February 2019

A fantastic event, filled with insight, inspiration, and some rather questionable hats, thanks to one of our animated keynote speakers. Among the informative statistics, eye-opening case studies and weirdly wonderful anecdotes, there was a serious message around anti-money laundering and cartels behaviour, but ultimately the programme was aimed at inspiring everyone to be the best they can be. Do you know about Register My Appliance?

Thursday 17 August 2017

As an agent, home safety should be a priority. To help ensure products and appliances remain safe, the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances (AMDEA), set up Register My Appliance (RMA), as a not-for-profit safety initiative.

Register My Appliance is an easy to navigate online portal which allows users to register their appliances so they are kept informed should there be any product recalls or safety notices.

Nationally, less than half of adults (43 per cent) register their appliances with a manufacturer, leaving many owners untraceable if a product needs a safety repair.

To encourage more people to register, the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances (AMDEA) created Register My Appliance which provides access to the registration pages of over 60 leading brands of domestic appliances.

Quick and Easy

The web portal is designed to make it quicker and easier for the public to register all of their appliances – old and new – to improve ownership data. By simply clicking on the brand logo the user reaches a data entry form linked directly to the relevant manufacturer, where the vast majority accept registrations of products up to 12 years old. It captures accurate contact information of owners of specific models of appliances, allowing manufacturers to issue safety updates or repair notifications to the right homes.

Register My Appliance is supported by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, as well as most safety and consumer groups.

Consumer Minister Margot James said:

“While we all hope never to receive safety messages from manufacturers, it’s important they can get in touch with customers quickly and easily if there are safety issues. AMDEA works throughout the year to get more people into the habit of registering the white goods they rely on every day, and I’d urge everyone to take a few minutes to do so.”

“I’ve used the Register My Appliance portal myself – it’s quick and easy and recognised by the Government-backed Working Group on Product Recalls and Safety as a key tool to help keep consumers safe across Britain.”

AMDEA works to promote the initiative nationwide, with organisations such as Trading Standards and the Fire Services, including the 46 fire and rescue authorities across England and the Fire Services in Scotland and Wales.

Let your tenants know

Make sure you let your vendors and buyers know about the scheme so that they can add the appliances in their homes to the register. You can also download this poster which you can hand out or pin to a noticeboard in your office.

Other useful info:

In addition to the registration section, the Register My Appliance website includes other valuable features including a safety repair and recall listings, hints for household safety, tips for appliance care, explanations of product testing and standards, guarantees and warranties and the AMDEA members’ code of practice on product safety.
