DCLG launch Rural Activity Plan

Thursday 27 August 2015

On Thursday, 20 August the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) announced the launch of its first Rural Productivity Plan.

Measures within the plan included amending planning rules to encourage the construction of new starter homes, improvement to rural broadband and transport links and an increase in devolutionary powers for local authorities.

The new planning rules will allow starter homes to be built on Rural Exception Sites for the first time. This initiative will allow local areas to allocate more sites for starter homes specifically for people who already live in the area, or have an existing family or employment connection. The Department also announced that it will review the planning constraints affecting new house builds in rural areas.
