House of Commons Library release detail on planning reforms

Friday 08 April 2016

The House of Commons Library released its briefing paper detailing the various planning reforms proposed by the Government.

The proposals listed in the paper include those that are set to be introduced in the Housing and Planning Bill 2015-16 and the Energy Bill 2015-16, along with announcements made in both the Autumn Statement 2015 and the Budget 2016. The paper identifies the proposals that are largely aimed at speeding up the local planning process by cutting regulations and red tape but also gives details on new requirements to build Starter homes.

This paper gives details of proposals that will mainly affect England. Information about changes that will be made in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland can be found in the joint library briefing entitled Comparison of the planning systems in the four UK countries: 2016 update.
