Why do the public look for NAEA members?

As a member of the NAEA you are demonstrating to your clients that you are committed to rules of conduct and professionalism and are dedicated to raising the standards within the industry. The public know that using a member of the NAEA ensures that they can access valuable advice on how their agent should be conducting their business and that their agent is prepared to be accountable to the UK's largest professional body for property agents.

Can my company become a member?

No. Membership of the NAEA is on an individual basis only.

Im an employee – Can I join?

By joining the NAEA as an employee you have shown your employer and any prospective employers that you are committed to professionalism and recognise the importance of raising the standards by becoming a qualified property agent.

My employer won’t pay for my membership?

Some handy tips and hints to encourage your employer to pay for your membership:

  • Show your employer a copy of the enormous membership benefits included in your application pack or downloadable from www.naea.co.uk
  • You could explain to your employer how by having an employee as a member of the NAEA you are upgrading your company's status in the eyes of your clients by showing your commitment to professional standards across the industry
  • Request a short course brochure and highlight how much money they would save by sending you on courses at member rate

NB. Before submitting your application please look at the checklist on the back page of the application form.

What grade of membership would I be eligible for? I have no qualifications in the industry?

For those applicants who do not hold a qualification relevant to the industry or recognised by the NAEA, you would be offered membership in the grade of student. Student grade entitles you to all benefits of membership but does not allow you to advertise membership of the NAEA. Should you wish to upgrade your membership to either Member or Fellow you will be required to take the NAEA Technical Award or NAEA Diploma. Please note Principals, Partners and Directors are not permitted to become students and must be qualified prior to joing the NAEA.

What grade of membership would I be eligible for? I have a qualification and I wonder if it exempts me from taking your exams?

To be eligible for membership you must have nationally recognised residential sales related qualification accepted by the Association for membership. Applicants must also be dealing in estate agency. In order to ascertain whether your qualification is recognised by the NAEA, please contact the Membership and Professional Development on 0845 250 6002

Principals, partners and directors in addition to using the designatory letters can also use the NAEA logo on their company's stationery.

All members at these grades will be provided with window stickers conveying your membership status to the public.

Student members are not permitted to use designatory letters or to advertise their membership in any way.

I work in Scotland – can I still become a member of the NAEA? What training do you offer?

Yes. You can still become a member of the NAEA. At present the NAEA Technical Award does not cover Scottish law, however this is in the process of being adapted so please bear with us.

What is Client Money Protection?

What is Client Money Protection ( CMP)?

The NFOPP/NAEA scheme is designed to reimburse clients of members who have suffered financial loss due to the dishonesty of the member and/or their firm. The NFOPP/NAEA have given a 'promise' to clients of NFOPP/NAEA members that, up to pre-set limits, they will make reimbursement for such losses. The NFOPP/NAEA have therefore taken out an insurance policy to these same pre-set limits to cover the risk that they have assumed in the 'promise' to the clients of members. The only party insured under this policy is the NFOPP/NAEA.
